HR Manager

Job description

You’ll lead the end-to-end HR function for a mixed field-and-office workforce—owning hiring, onboarding, employee relations, performance, policies, and people ops. You’ll partner with leadership to build a safe, high-performance culture while ensuring full compliance with UK employment law and ACAS guidance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and run recruitment pipelines (advertising, agencies, interviews, offers, pre-employment checks/right-to-work).
  • Design onboarding that’s site-ready (inductions, H&S/HSEQ briefings, certifications tracking).
  • Advise and manage ER cases end-to-end: investigations, disciplinaries, grievances, capability, and absence.
  • Maintain HR policies, contracts, and employee handbook; ensure GDPR and equality compliance.
  • Drive the HR calendar: appraisals, probation reviews, engagement initiatives, recognition.
  • Partner with Payroll/Finance on accurate starters/leavers and contractual changes.
  • Maintain HRIS data integrity; report on headcount, attrition, absence and key people metrics.
  • Coordinate training and competency matrices (e.g., PIA/NRSWA/first aid) with HSEQ/Operations.
  • Support change initiatives, restructures and (where applicable) TUPE processes.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience as an HR Manager/strong HR Generalist in the UK (telecoms/utilities/construction a plus).
  • Solid knowledge of UK employment law and ACAS codes; confident handling ER cases.
  • CIPD Level 5 (Level 7 advantageous).
  • Excellent communication, coaching and stakeholder management skills.
  • Highly organised, discreet, and data-driven; comfortable splitting time between office and sites.
  • HRIS proficiency and strong Excel/Sheets skills.
